Wedding at the Hotel du Pont

May 15th, 2008

The goal of CDG is to always express the couple’s personality through our design. This wedding was designed to reflect all the wants and wishes of the bride and groom. The event began with expressive ceremony décor in the DuBarry Room at the Hotel du Pont. The aisle was created with a runner dappled with rose petals flanked by very modern illuminated rectangular towers topped with a grid of votive candles. At the front was a Chuppah draped with white organza fabric. There was a wonderful juxtaposition between the old world elegance of the room and the modern simplicity of the light and fabric.

Each of the bridesmaids carried a different bouquet within the dominant color palate of pink, purple, and orange. There was a variety among the flower types as well including peonies, roses, gerbera daisies and tulips. The bride carried a cascading bouquet of ivory calla lilies. The breathtaking reception décor featured canopies over some of the tables with hanging candles and suspended orchids. Other centerpiece concepts included groupings of small vases, elevated arrangements, and tight “box” style arrangements. Black runners ran the length of the rectangular tables and the chairs were covered with black spandex bands replacing bows for a more stylized chair accent/finish.

Ceremonies

May 15th, 2008

For many brides and grooms, there is a big question about where to hold their ceremony.  Many engaged couples are from different backgrounds or faiths, or simply are choosing an alternate venue.  Approximately fifty percent of wedding ceremonies that CDG handles do not take place in a church, but often a spot close to the reception such as these two ceremonies at the Doubletree Hotel on Concord Pike.  Given that statistic, it is important to consider how you will create a focal point for your ceremony.  One of the ways to do this is to set-up an arch and adorn it with tulle and flowers.  It frames the bride and groom and provides a nice backdrop for photos.  Pedestals such as those pictured above hold vases filled with red roses adding more color and interest to the front of the room.  Another way to transform an otherwise ordinary room into a ceremony site is to emphasize the aisle by adding tall candle holders with cascades of greenery and ribbon.

English Country Garden Reception

May 15th, 2008

If you are a couple who are looking for the feel of an English Country Garden without actually being outside, then this is the look for you.  This set-up exudes a country feeling within the elegant confines of the DuPont Country Club in Wilmington, DE.  The tables were draped in pastel floral cloths. Different style centerpieces added interest and whimsy to add to the garden style room.  One of the centerpieces was a tall cylindrical vase which was filled with purple dendrobium orchids which seemed to “grow” out of the wheat grass on the bottom.  This glass cylinder was topped with a large arrangement of wildflowers such as snapdragons, iris, heather, sunflowers, and forsythia.  Another centerpiece concept was a cluster of four glass vases of varying sizes and shapes filled with apples, orange slices, asparagus, and wheat grass.  Rising out of the top of these vases were iris, peonies, daffodils, and other spring flowers.  Varying your centerpieces is a great way to include many of your ideas into your design.  The tablescape can also be a way to stretch your budget, choosing only a handful of the very large pieces mixed in with a few of the smaller settings.

Spring Reception at Waterfall

This bride chose a whimsical garden theme for her wedding. Pottery painted white with green and pink dots lent a casual playful feel to an otherwise formal event. The pots were filled with ranunculus, mums, spray roses, hypericum berries, and stock. The arrangements were free form and purposefully not too structured. CDG worked to bring current trends to life with the pink & green palette. This is an example of how we offer couples an opportunity to express their personalities with the fun of eclectic table décor which in this case included the use of both the clay pots and the polka dots. Three other centerpiece designs were used at this event including blooming branches on moss covered cylinders. This variety of design style give couples the opportunity to express multiple areas of interest.

Blue and Brown Bat Mitzvah

April 13th, 2008

This eclectic table décor comes from a Bat Mitzvah at the Doubletree Hotel on Concord Pike, Wilmington, DE. Just like the pink and green from the last post, blue and brown is another hot color combo this year. This family opted for chair covers and table linens in the blue and brown palette. Fabric and linens are a quick and dramatic way to transform a space. The centerpieces were sparkling blue and silver spikes reminiscent of fireworks on New Year’s Eve.

The YWCA hosted an “Evening of Style” at the Hotel du Pont in Wilmington, DE.  The silent auction took place among decorations of orange feathers and frills.  There were “ladies” draped in orange, pink and black ensembles adorned with feather and flowering branches for headpieces.   Orange feather balls hung from the ceilings.  Towering boxes were filled with tiger lilies clustered in various geometric shapes.  This event gave a nod to high fashion and dramatic flair.

Picasso Mini-Calla Lilies

Calla lilies are all the rage right now – and none more spectacular than the Picasso Mini-Calla.  Callas have long been a favorite of brides because of their sleek modern cream colored appearance.  However, these Picassos have a touch of purple which accentuates the beautiful lines of the flower.  Many brides these days are looking for that little punch of color whether it is in their bouquets or a sash on their wedding gowns.  The Picassos maintain the beauty of the traditional calla while following the hot trend of color for brides.

Tropical Bar Mitzvah

Proving that one of the new trends in events can work well to enliven the festivities, Celebrations Design Group showcases uniquely structured and elaborately decorated food stations for this event. This themed room includes many components working together to create an overall tropical atmosphere.  The tables and chairs are covered in black linens creating a striking backdrop for the tropical table runner and green leaf placemats.  A whimsical and sculptural arrangement is at the center of the table incorporating many beautiful tropical flowers such as orchids, birds of paradise, anthuriums, and ferns.  A swashbuckling pirate stands guard over this food station just daring the guests to sample the fare.   If your son or daughter is not the pirate type, there are myriad themes that can reflect your son or daughters interests such as A Night at the Oscars, Sports, Music/Hard Rock Café, Broadway Shows etc.

Regal Winter Wonderlands

March 8th, 2008

This reception was truly one for the record books.  Almost every centerpiece in the Gold Ballroom at Mendenhall Inn was different.  Tom used the “regal winter wonderlands” theme to drive the creation of varied centerpieces of all heights, shapes, and sizes.  There were elegant frosted square towers which were topped with spheres of red roses, red amaryllis stems in a vase of cranberries; manzanita branches atop tall glass cylinders adorned with orchids, crystals and hanging candles; an asymmetrical bowl of flowers appearing to “spill out” from the top; bark covered boxes filled with red and white flowers, wheat grass, nuts, and other woodland items.  The effect was dramatic from a distance, but the true genius of it couldn’t be realized until a much closer inspection of all the complex details.   I almost expected a fairy nymph to come flitting out of one of the centerpieces. (It didn’t happen – but it certainly could have!)

Holiday Extravaganza

March 8th, 2008

        image00010.jpg

At this holiday party the centerpieces were truly something to sing about!  Tom suggested the ideal theme for this corporate event: Sing A Song of Christmas! Buffet arrangements were a representation of different Christmas Carols:  Blue Christmas, Jingle Bell Rock, White Christmas, Carol of the Bells while the 12 table centerpieces reflected a different day from The Twelve Days of Christmas. This party, held at Harry’s Savoy Ballroom, is an example of how CDG incorporates theme décor into events. The centerpieces were designed with an abundance of holiday components & oodles of imagination when looking for Frosty’s head & such. The design team had a blast bringing the carols to life!
